FOG: intervene before it accumulates.
Bioaugmentation programmes targeting the breakdown of fats, oils and grease deposits in collection systems, pumping stations, grease interceptors and treatment facilities.
The challenge
FOG accumulation can restrict available flow area and increase the need for pumping, jetting and deposit removal. In treatment facilities, FOG loading is also associated with floating solids and foaming.
The biological approach
Selected bacterial cultures are used to support biological degradation of the FOG load. Formulations intended for this application combine lipase and biosurfactant production with micronutrients and biostimulants.
The objective
Limit new deposits and reaccumulation, aiming for fewer unplanned interventions and better system operation.
Illustration — not a BAUS project.Where it is considered
Collection systems, lift stations, grease interceptors and lagoons. For wastewater containing hydrocarbons, suitability is assessed specifically for the load concerned.
What we evaluate
Reaccumulation rate, recorded cleaning interventions, wastewater characteristics and conditions at downstream points. Our method
Relevant research
Favorable findings on deposits and fat degradation, across different scales and conditions.
