Address odours at their source.
Biological applications aimed at limiting the formation of odorous compounds associated with organic material in wastewater.
The challenge
Odours from collection systems, pumping stations and treatment facilities create operational challenges and affect neighbouring uses. Management may require additional equipment, chemicals and ongoing monitoring.
The biological approach
Selected microorganisms are used to degrade organic material, with the aim of limiting the formation of odorous compounds. Programme selection is tied to the odour source and system conditions.
The objective
Limit nuisance and assess whether supplementary interventions and their operating costs can be reduced.
Illustration — not a BAUS project.Where it is considered
Collection systems, pumping stations, wet wells, grease interceptors, WWTPs and lagoons, according to the problem.
What we evaluate
Comparable records of odour episodes, operating conditions and the compounds selected for monitoring. Nuisance reports are considered alongside technical measurements. Our method
Relevant research
Studies of specific odorants, not a general guarantee of odour elimination.
